Ever since I was a small child I have loved the sea. I think I developed that love for the sea because I grew up next to the largest lake in Norway, and I spent many enjoyable hours sailing small boats on the lake. When I was in high school, I began to live my dreams when I got a job with Norwegian American Lines which ran passenger ships between Oslo and New York. I obtained my Master Mariner License in 1976. After school I joined the Norwegian Navy and worked as a Captain on various cruise ships before joining Disney Cruise Line in 1995 as this company's first Captain. At the age of 5, I told my mother that I planned to be a sea captain when I grew up.  The area I'm from in Finland is known for its seafaring roots and my ancestors have been going to sea since the beginning of time, so my mother was not surprised when I told her these plans. Working for Disney Cruise Line is a dream come true for me. I began my hospitality career in my hometown of Mumbai, India at the world-famous Taj Mahal hotel. After receiving my diploma in hotel management I began working in the cruise industry.
